Who are we?
We are an international group of women living in the Herault area, affiliated to "Open Door" a worldwide association. The club is not for profit and has no political, religious or racial affiliations or implications.
We are an "Official Association" according to the French law of 1901. This means that each year we have to hold an Annual General Meeting where we elect the committee. The committee then decide who will be the serving officers of the club for the coming year. We usually have 8 to 10 committee members. When we choose new people for the official posts of President, Secretary and Treasurer we have to inform the Prefecture and publish the names in the official newspaper. It also means we have to have a constitution and there are other obligations. On the plus side, however, it also means we are entitled to support from the commune where we are based, hence the free use of our pleasant meeting room. We could also apply for financial support if we needed it.
Our Association was formed in 2006 and we now have more than 80 members of 12 different nationalities, of all ages and backgrounds. However, many of us are retired and living permanently in France. The majority of our members are English speaking, made up of British, Irish, Canadian and Australian nationals. The continental Europeans - Dutch, German, French, Swiss and Swedish make up a sizeable contingent and our meetings are held mainly in English but using French as much as possible. Although we are based in Florensac, our members come from all over the area and only a handful are based in the town itself.
What do we do?
We hold monthly meetings where we often have a speaker talking about subjects of interest. Look at the page "Calendar" to see the subjects which are proposed for future meetings. Sometimes a member who has a special skill or an interesting background will share her experiences with us. Sometimes the committee will put together a presentation for the members.
Apart from the monthly meetings we have several small groups that follow activities such as French and English conversation, walking, cooking and gardening. Look at the page on "Activities" to see what is currently on offer.
When and Where do we Meet?
The town council of Florensac has given us the use of a room in the beautifully restored Domaine du Bosquet near the town centre. We meet on the second Thursday of every month (except for July and August) at 14.30. Meetings usually last until about 16.30
The entrance is on the Avenue Roger Salengro on the road towards Pomerols. WICM posters will guide you to the meeting room - La Maison Pour Tous.
